Editors choose wireless chipset for award

The Editors of Control Engineering magazine have named Ember Corporation's EM2420 embedded wireless networking solution one of the most significant technical innovations of 2003.
The publication gave the EM2420 a 2003 Editors' Choice Award for wireless mesh networking based on its service to the industry, technological advancement and market impact.
The EM2420 is a low-cost chipset embedded with wireless networking intelligence.
Ember customers, such as Advance Transformer Company, a division of Philips Electronics and a leader in the digital ballast and industrial lighting markets, use the EM2420 to build mesh networks for a wide range of remote monitoring and management application.
Ember-based mesh networks manage lighting, temperature and security in business and industrial facilities; monitor and operate industrial devices; detect wear and tear on physical infrastructure, such as roads and bridges; and support mobile applications, such as temperature and humidity monitoring for preventing fresh food spoilage.
Control Engineering picks its Editors' Choice winners from among all of the technologies it writes about during the year.
In 2003, Ember and 34 other companies stood out from the thousands of products that appeared in Control Engineering.
"Each month, we review hundreds of new product releases".

The publication will announce the results of a subscriber poll to name eight Control Engineering Engineers' Choice Awards at a 24th February ceremony during the National Manufacturing Week trade show in Chicago and in its March North American print edition.
