Following on from the TechTrends symposia and attendance at Embedded World in Nuremberg, this year EBV Elektronik is organising a semiconductor forum at SPS/IPC/Drives "Based on products and technologies provided by Altera, Avago Technologies, Freescale Semiconductor and National Semiconductor, EBV Elektronik is presenting its own system solutions from the industrial environment at SPS/IPC/Drives 2006", says to Detlef Kaminski, Regional Application Manager at EBV in Central Europe

LED technologies address automotive applications
EBV Elektronik has put together a new service package offering automotive lighting solutions using LED technologies.
"For example, EBV-Industrial Solutions are presenting the latest semiconductor technology in practical, flexible, state-of-the-art applications", says Kaminski.
For example, EBV is presenting an MMI (man-machine interface) with a high-end processor and integrated graphics controller (Freescale) as well as power-over-Ethernet capability, based on the Dragonfire microcontroller family from Freescale.
A special Linux environment allows intuitive operation and makes it possible to further develop a company's own Linux software even on nonLinux computers thanks to the comprehensive tool chain.

Instem expands relationship
UK outsourced electronics manufacturing services provider Instem Technologies has placed a major new supply contract for semiconductor components with Abacus Polar.
However, EBV is also presenting Ethernet applications in the industrial environment.
Examples are Profinet, EtherCat, SercosIII and PowerLink as well as the Profibus and Interbus S industrial fieldbuses.
These are partly used in a quick-reaction motion control application.
All fieldbuses are implemented as software cores in a Cyclone FPGA from Altera so that the interfaces demonstrate incredible flexibility.
USB and Ethernet are integrated as software cores in the FPGA.
They are therefore available as interfaces for video transmission, to name one example.
In the case of Ethernet and industrial Ethernet, the physical connection takes place via PHY and double-PHY components from National Semiconductor, which in the case of optimum data transmission are connected with ideally suited optical link components from Avago Technologies.
This ensures the quick and secure data transmission of the results of the sophisticated motor control algorithms and the whole system solution is equipped accordingly.
This application was realised with two application boards from the EBV - Industrial Solutions range which, in conjunction with customised software modules and drive components from EBV partners, form the basis of an impressive real-time application.
The COBRA5329KIT reference board was developed in conjunction with the appropriate Linux software environment from senTec Elektronik and emlix as part of a joint project commissioned by Freescale Semiconductor, National Semiconductor and EBV Elektronik.
In addition to the MCF5329 microprocessor which has extensive peripherals, the board also contains the Ethernet PHY module DP83848 from National Semiconductor and appropriate flash memory and SRAMs.
The application board is optimised to power-over-Ethernet with 10/100Mbit/s (National LM5070).
To make the use of the COBRA5329Kit more flexible, National Semiconductor has developed an AIB (analogue input board), with which users can feed analogue signals into the board.
The AIB contains a dual-channel 12bit ADC, which scans signals with 1Msample/s.
The preamplifier of the AIBs can be configured by the developers themselves.
The board also has an area for additional circuits.
High-performance hardware and software platform for a number of applications such as man/machine interfaces which work with graphics, measuring devices, terminals etc The COBRA5329PM processor module can be used as a stand-alone system, and integrated into the customer's application.
The DBC2C20 is an FPGA-based development board, which was developed specifically for users who deploy NIOS II and the NET framework in the industrial environment.
The board is equipped with a Cyclone FPGA from Altera and has various industrial I/Os such as CAN, RS485, RS232 and 24V I/O for direct connection to the automation world.
For visualisation tasks, the board contains an LVDS interface for direct connection of TFT displays, a navigation key, LEDs and a seven-segment display for two digits.
Several IP cores such as Ethernet-MAC, CAN controller (Eval) and USB controller (Eval) are included in the scope of delivery.
The board is also available with a USB-Blaster.
SPS/IPC/Drives runs from 28th to 30th November 2006 in Nuremberg.
EBV Elektronik will be on Stand 150 in Hall 6.
