IC inventories made RoHS compliant

An E-Certa product story
Edited by the Electronicstalk editorial team May 15, 2007

E-Certa specialises in Pb (lead) conversion for semiconductors and testing for RoHS compliance.

In an effort to address inventory problems facing OEMs, some independent distributors are offering to convert existing inventories to RoHS compliance.

Many OEMs are stuck with leftover components that they are unable to use due to recent corporate strategies for converting end products to RoHS compliance.

Franchised distributors do not offer a service to physically convert existing components to RoHS compliance, instead offering restock as the sole solution.

Some independent distributors, however, have found a new niche in this evolving environmentally compliant supply chain.

Michael Baker, Quality Manager of E-Certa, says: "More independent distributors have been using our RoHS conversion service".

"I've been receiving inquiries almost everyday from independent distributors wanting to convert semiconductors for their clients".

"Before, conversion requests came from OEMs and military/aerospace; now it seems that independent distributors are placing orders to convert components just as rapidly".

E-Certa specialises in Pb (lead) conversion for semiconductors and testing for RoHS compliance.

"They use us because they need a company that can not only convert components, but also provide the proper documentation and testing needed for RoHS compliance", says Baker.

In a December 2006 study conducted by Technology Forecasters, titled "Gauging environmental preparedness and recommendations for best practices", 52% of OEMs were converting some of their inventory to RoHS compliant.

This trend is inspiring some independent distributors to become involved with their client's component conversion plans.
