Novel controller cuts costs of capacitive screens
eGalax has developed a novel low-cost capacitive touch screen controller.
eGalax has developed a novel low-cost capacitive touch screen controller.
Capacitive touch screens are completely immune to environmental contaminants like water, dust, dirt and grease.
This makes them more durable and reliable than other types of touch screen, and consequently they have traditionally been more expensive than resistive systems.
Capacitive touch screens are commonly implemented in the severest environments, such as public-access kiosks, industrial process controls and restaurant applications.
Touch screen manufacturers can easily include the new controller in their existing designs.
The eGalax capacitive controller dramatically improves touch screen response performance by providing high resolution up to 2048 x 2048 and 4- or 25-point calibration.
The device provides novel functions like emulating the right mouse button and double clicking, support for drawing test function and also for multilingual Windows.
The controller also supports serial device drivers which are fully compliant with different operation systems like Windows 98, 2000, NT4, Me, XP, RedHat Linux, DOS and iMac.
"The goal of eGalax is to provide our customers by delivering innovative, world-class touch screen controller products", said Mei Tsai, president of eGalax.
The new capacitive solution will enter mass production in Q3 2002.
