Elma Electronic has appointed Martin Blake to run its UK enclosures and backplanes operation, replacing Dave Mellor who has moved to America to head up a recent Elma acquisition.

Blake brings 18 years of senior management experience in the enclosures and bus-based system integration market place, having held senior positions with Vero, APW and Mektron.

"The market needs subassemblies, not just kits of parts, and with Elmas capabilities in this arena, I am planning for 35% growth in the next year.

OEMs are already responding well to our customisation and local technical support, as underlined by the recent $1m order for configured VME chassis for a major UK research project".

As a Chartered Engineer, Blake also brings 13 years experience of VME systems and software development, together with applications engineering in the telecom, defence and semiconductor industries, providing a valuable insight to wider customer needs, especially at the system and integration levels.

Blake believes it is vital to provide proactive product and technical support for early adopters of the emerging backplane standards such as AdvancedTCA and other switched fabric implementations.

Elma Electronic UK was established in 2001 to provide direct support to UK customers, and has grown to a team of 15 people, with a turnover in excess of £2m in 2003.
