Mektron Systems of Bedford, a leading supplier of rugged system enclosures, has been acquired by the Elma Electronic Group.

Mektron Systems of Bedford, a leading supplier of rugged system enclosures, has been acquired by the Elma Electronic Group.

The two founding directors of Mektron Systems, Jim Anthony and Bob Amos, are delighted that the company is now part of a larger international organisation and are very enthusiastic about the acquisition.

Says Anthony: "We are delighted to be part of a wider family; Elma offers the strength of a larger company with a corporate view that will substantially enhance our business position with our customer base and will enable the business to grow with the right infrastructure around us".

Elma Electronic designs, develops and manufactures system platforms, electronic enclosures and components, backplanes, switches, knobs and LEDs for a wide market base.

Mektron Systems is a developer and producer of high-end electronic packaging systems and specialist products for the COTS, defence and high-availability sector.

The company has been a forerunner in providing COTS system enclosure solutions and over the last 10 years has built a strong market position.

"The acquisition was made to strengthen our position in the UK market, with the aim of furthering our specialisation as a solutions provider in high value market segments", says Martin Blake, Managing Director of Elma Electronic UK.

He adds: "Mektron has the technical capability coupled with the flexibility and innovation to meet the widely diverse design needs of customers, and this is exactly what we require to strengthen our UK presence".

Elma Electronic UK has been growing rapidly with its standard range of products and has recently been developing good business from systems level COTS products for the defence sector.

This acquisition has significantly enhanced Elma's UK manufacturing facilities and has added substantially to the group's overall engineering capabilities.
