Elmos Semiconductor has received its first order from Japan: a large automotive supplier will apply an Elmos chip to control a motor management application.

"To receive this order from the Japanese market is a huge success for Elmos.

We successfully competed against both global and local companies", says Dr Peter Thoma, Member of the Board of Management for Sales and Development at Elmos Semiconductor.

The development of this customer-specific semiconductor has already started at the end of last year.

Elmos will ramp up the ASIC to series production beginning mid-2006.

The parties agreed that no further details of this agreement will be made public.

The Elmos chip integrates high-voltage periphery and memory elements.

The IC will be produced in the own Elmos-specific high-temperature SoI technology.

"The customer benefits from our long-term experience with semiconductors in the automotive industry".

"This is a result of our know how, especially in the field of alternator technology", states Dr Thoma.

The IC has to withstand extreme adverse environmental influences.

The semiconductor will be immune against temperatures of up to 150C and to mechanical stress in the motor environment, where the chip can reach temperatures of up to 175C.

"We optimally adjusted to the high quality requirements of our customers", says Dr Thoma.
