Keypads help equipment designers and systems integrators comply with environmental directives.

Electrone Europe is launching a new series of keypads it reckons will help equipment designers and systems integrators comply with environmental directives.

The innovative Electrone 720 is specially designed to meet the RoHS environmental standard and also features a 2 x 16-character LCD and a 17-key arrangement.

The keypad's uses are varied and extensive.

Numerous implementations have already been completed in the USA by Electrone's parent company, Electrone Americas.

These include, petrol station customers identifying themselves at pumps, prepaid phone systems and a pilot scheme allowing prepaid toll cards to be used to purchase fast food en route.

A number of advanced models are available which include variable connections, options for using multiple keyboards and full network connectivity.

Electrone will distribute the keypad through its network of European resellers and is looking for further resellers to add to the network.

Mike Buchanan, Head of Marketing for Electrone Europe, says: "This is a real opportunity for system integrators to distribute a product that, as far as we can ascertain, is truly unique".

"The graphical LCD display, different connection types and the network connectivity allow the Electrone 720 keypad to fit a whole range of legacy and future technology environments and business applications".

"The 720 already proved very popular in the US within the hotel, hospitality and the forecourt services markets and has attracted excitement from retailers here in the UK".

"It's very important that resellers examine new legislation such as the WEEE Directive and make sure they understand their new environmental responsibilities".

"Moving towards RoHS compliant products is an important part of a healthy green strategy".

Peter Ward, General Manager for Electrone Europe, believes the new range of keypads will help IT managers ensure they comply with new regulations.

He comments: "Businesses must look at the full implications of the WEEE legislation and consider how they will dispose of IT hardware in the future".

"IT managers now need to keep an audit trail of their equipment and devise a recycling strategy".

Ward continues: "Making sure all your hardware is RoHS compliant is an easy step to work towards compliance".
