The latest version of the SolderStar Neptune temperature-profiling system is specifically aimed at reflow and wave soldering applications.

Protected by a lead-free-ready heat shield incorporating 'space age' materials, the Neptune data logger is able to travel with the PCB being soldered through any reflow or wave process, measuring the temperature profile at specific sites of interest.

The uniquely compact data logger design achieves a 9 x 50mm form factor and uses standard Type K connectors.

This allows easier profiling of narrow PCBs and avoids potential application problems which can occur on ovens with restricted tunnel height.

The low-power Neptune data logger is available in four-, six- or eight-channel variants and can run for up to 12 months on a single pair of low-cost lithium coin cells.

Supplied complete with Profile Central, a comprehensive data analysis, process documentation and management software tool, the system provides automatic setup by way of preconfigured machine and solder paste libraries.

An innovative graphical Process Checker facility analyses the resulting profile automatically, extracting all the process parameters required, and displays them in an intuitive graphical format against limits generated from the solder paste specification.

Problem parameters are then brought to the attention of the user.

Profile Seeker, an optional graphical profile prediction tool, allows offline evaluation of heater and conveyor speed changes to be made.

The utility can save time and money by removing the need to make numerous unnecessary profile runs when a new profile is set up from scratch, for example when moving to a lead-free paste, or an existing profile is being optimised.
