Public and media relations for the industry
EML was established in 1987 by Richard Parker and Geoff Boyes after working together for US semiconductor company, Analog Devices.
EML was established in 1987 by Richard Parker and Geoff Boyes after working together for US semiconductor company, Analog Devices.
Richard and Geoff felt that there was a need for a specialist PR and media relations agency for the electronics industry where their years of personal experience in engineering, marketing and sales could save their clients' time, and offer added value for the media.
In 1991 Andy Gothard joined Richard and Geoff at EML.
In common with the company's founders, Andy's university education was in electronics and physics which he then followed with a number of years as a journalist on publications such as Electronics Manufacture and Test and Electronics Weekly.
Today EML has 23 staff, the majority of whom are technically qualified: most have worked in engineering and/or sales and marketing outside an agency environment.
The majority of the agency's work revolves around gaining editorial coverage in the pan-European trade and technical publications which cover the electronics industry.
This is achieved by researching and writing editorial, and arranging press events and interviews.
EML also usually becomes involved in the client's overall marketing strategy, a task which often involves competitive research and message generation.
Furthermore, the agency usually works on the corporate side of the client's business, often alongside advertising agencies and corporate advisors.
EML has a portfolio of established clients such as NEC, Hitachi, Synopsys, Raychem, PMC-Sierra, Data Device Corporation and Pulse, as well as a number of start-up technology companies.
These include Bookham Technology, Cambridge Silicon Radio, Elixent, Sarantel, Kamelian and Southampton Photonics.
