A new laboratory in Henley on Thames will provide a resource in the UK for developers looking for technical support and expertise in polishing and thinning of advanced materials.

Engis (UK) has opened a new laboratory in Henley on Thames, England.

The new, well equipped facility will provide a resource in the UK for developers looking for technical support and expertise in polishing and thinning of advanced materials and will demonstrate Engis' equipment and capabilities.

The laboratory is the latest facility in a worldwide network of state-of-the-art laboratories and shows the company's understanding of the current growth and future potential of European developments in this area.

Engis (UK) is already working with semiconductor companies and academic institutions on areas from pure research, involving the development of completely new processes, through to practical manufacturing applications using compound semiconductor materials in applications including photonics and optics, where process improvement is the goal.

Engis MD, John Wellings comments: "Materials such as gallium nitride and silicon carbide pose specific challenges to developers".

"Because Engis undertakes extensive R and D activities in its own right, as well as working closely with academic institutions on a range of funded projects, we understand those challenges and are able to assist with leading edge technical expertise".
