PhiCap AC capacitors from Epcos are primarily designed for power factor correction in industrial and semi-industrial environments.

PhiCap AC capacitors from Epcos are primarily designed for power factor correction in industrial and semi-industrial environments However, they can also be used in uninterruptible power supply and drive engineering applications

The output power ranges available are, 0.5 to 25kVAr for three-phase and 0.7 to 5kVAr for single-phase applications.

PhiCap capacitors have a maintenance free, minimum expected life of 80,000 hours.

Housed in cylindrical aluminium cases and using a polypropylene dielectric, the devices feature a dual safety system to enhance reliability.

The first, a self-healing system, prevents permanent dielectric breakdown in the event of sporadic voltage surges, overcurrent or overtemperature situations.

The second is an overpressure disconnector that prevents the capacitor from bursting due to thermal or electrical overload.

Capacitors in the Epcos PhiCap range are designed to be installed using an integral M12 stud for case diameters over 53mm or an M8 stud for diameters under 53mm.

Any mounting position except for upside down is acceptable.

Electrical connection is made by either screw terminals or fast-on terminals depending on device part number.

Being able to operate at altitudes of up to 2km above sea level, and in a relative humidity of up to 95%, makes PhiCap capacitors suitable for applications in many environments.

The quoted operating life of the devices is achievable between the upper and lower category temperatures of -25 and +55C.
