Epcos has added three optimised core series for digital subscriber line applications to its product range.

Epcos has added three optimised core series for digital subscriber line applications to its product range The EPX7/9 combines the height of the tried and tested EP13 with the footprint of the EP7

The EPX10 has an optimised design and the same overall dimensions as the EP10.

The EPO13 is a low-profile version of the EP13.

SMD coil formers are offered for all cores.

A cap yoke is available for the EPX10 to facilitate assembly of the transformer.

The design of the new cores has been optimised for xDSL interface transformers.

The EPX cores have considerably larger centre legs than the standard EP types.

Total harmonic distortion can thus be reduced without increasing winding space, and the range of xDSL lines can be extended.

Thanks to these new, optimised EPX cores, interface transformers can be miniaturised.

The EPX cores have a smaller footprint.

This allows more transformers or lines to be installed on a board.

EPX cores are therefore particularly suitable for DSLAMs in central offices.

The EPO13, with the same footprint but a lower insertion height than EP13, represents a low-profile version of the latter.

This new core is particularly suitable for xDSL modems in customer premises equipment.

The same coil can be used for the EPO13 core as for the EP13 without modification, so that comparable magnetic properties are obtained.

Samples of the EPX7/9 and EPX10 cores made with tools for volume production are available in ferrite materials T38 (for ADSL) and T57 (SHDSL).

EPX cores in other materials are available on request.
