Novel ferrite shrinks ADSL transformers

An Epcos product story

Epcos has a new ferrite material optimised for ADSL applications.

Epcos has a new ferrite material optimised for ADSL applications.

In comparison with the conventional T38 ferrite material, the new T66 material increases the data rate and range of ADSL lines.

Thanks to optimisation of the material, the interface transformer can be miniaturised.

If transformers are based on the new EPX cores made of ferrite material T66, more transformers or modules can be housed on the board.

Installation costs per ADSL line can thus be significantly reduced.

Further progress is also being made in miniaturisation as new and improved ferrite materials are developed for power applications.

In power transformers, for example, new materials with reduced power losses make it possible to use smaller ferrite cores.
