In response to the distinct trend in line-card design toward miniaturisation and simplification, Epcos has launched two completely new PTC thermistor designs for telecomms line protection: the R212 and the TPP.

The new R212 square PTC thermistor is designed for the latest generation of main distribution frame modules.

With overall dimensions of only 5.95 x 5.95 x 2.65mm, it is intended for vertical surface mounting.

Its electrodes are suitable for soldering as well as for clamping.

Rated resistance is 12ohm at 120mA and 25C.

The telecomms pair protector (TPP) is an innovative line protection module containing two Epcos PTC thermistors in a four-pin case.

It can be processed easily by automatic SMD placement machinery and saves up to 40% of the space required by previous SMD solutions.

The two-in-one design offers further benefits in terms of cost and placement.

An insulation strength of 3000V is maintained between the two thermistor disks.

The two PTC thermistors are resistance-matched ensuring a balance between the lines.

The TPP can be equipped with PTC thermistor disks of a variety of values and thus covers a wide resistance range.
