Dual-band SAW shrinks to chip size
Epcos has now started sampling a miniaturised EGSM-PCN dual-band two-in-one surface acoustic wave (SAW) filter.
Epcos has now started sampling a miniaturised EGSM-PCN dual-band two-in-one surface acoustic wave (SAW) filter Impedance matching, outstanding performance and a 33% reduction in footprint from 3 x 2.5 to 2 x 2.5mm makes this filter a key product for next-generation front-end modules for mobile communications

Low-profile design for tantalum polymer capacitors
Epcos is now shipping polymer tantalum capacitors in case size X, measuring only 1.5 mm high, 7.3 mm long and 4.3 mm wide.
Its design is based on the second generation of the chip-size SAW package (CSSP) technology developed by Epcos, which enables high-performance components to be manufactured with a high degree of miniaturisation in all three dimensions.
The next step will be to reduce package height to 0.74mm, making the dual-band SAW filter an ideal platform for further phases of integration.
Over the next few years, two-in-one filters, especially those for front-end modules, are expected to be in great demand.
As well as EGSM-PCN filters (GSM 900/1800), combined AMPS/PCS filters (GSM 850/1900) will figure prominently in the North American market.
Epcos offers numerous solutions for these frequency bands as well.
