Epcos is now shipping polymer tantalum capacitors in case size X, measuring only 1.5 x 7.3 x 4.3mm wide The new polymer series, which complements the company's tried and tested standard tantalum capacitors in case size V, is distinguished from the standard tantalum types by very low ESR (equivalent series resistance)

Two types with a capacitance of 150uF for a rated voltage of 6.3V are currently available.

ESR reaches a maximum of 40uohm in type B45292R1157M41 and 50uohm in type B45292R1157M40, and remains stable over a wide range of temperatures and frequencies.

Operating temperature range is from -55 to +105C.

Thanks to their low ESR and compact dimensions, the polymer tantalum capacitors are ideal for mobile phones, notebooks, PDAs and other portable equipment.

In power supplies for mobile electronic equipment, for example, designing in the new tantalums means that the number of capacitors connected in parallel can be significantly reduced.

Another advantage of the new capacitors is that they cannot ignite in the event of failure.

The new polymer series is supplied on blister tapes on reels with diameters of 180 or 330mm.

The new capacitors are also contained in the sample kit of polymer chip capacitors (B45294Z9999Z005).
