Epcos is offering designers a new low-cost solution for their powerline choke needs with the introduction of its new E-core series, based on EF20 cores.

These current-compensated double chokes with closed E ferrite core, feature a closed PETP coil former with four sections.

Rated voltage is 250V AC and the cores are offered in a range of currents from 0.3 to 1.8A, providing inductances from 3.3 to 100mH.

Thanks to higher leakage inductance, common-mode rejection is significantly improved.

Aimed at entertainment electronics and lighting in particular, a horizontal version is available for lamp ballasts with less than 14mm of headroom.

The new choke's coil former is flame retardant to UL94V0.

The choke's two-section winding gives it a high resonance frequency and its low leakage is a result of the core's closed shape.

The E-core series also features a high pulse strength.

The choke's pins are lead-free tinned and have a lead spacing of 10 x 10mm.

EN60938-2 and UL 1283 approvals are pending.

A sample kit containing two chokes for each inductance range is available (ordering code B82731-X2).
