Epcos is maximising the technological supremacy of one of its own suppliers to provide its latest ranges of coil formers with a "fast track" to UL approval In the past few years DuPont has emerged as the leading vendor of materials for electrical insulation systems (EIS) and is licensing these UL- and IEC-approved materials to manufacturers of transformers, motors, coils and other electrical equipment, free of charge

Epcos is making greater use of DuPont thermoplastic materials in its products.

For example, DuPont's engineering polymer Rynite PET in flame-resistant material satisfies the requirements of UL1446 for insulation systems up to 600V in classes A to N.

Epcos is now offering its full range of ETD PTH coil formers in Rynite FR530 as well as in the tried and tested thermoplastic materials Valox and Pocan.

To distinguish the various materials used and facilitate traceability, new ordering codes with the code letters W and X have been issued for ETD coil formers made of Rynite FR530.

As EIS can be directly integrated into the application, customers can avoid the lengthy and costly procedure of system approval by Underwriters Laboratories (UL).

Epcos is using listed thermoplastic materials exclusively, such as Crastin, Zenite and LCP, for its coil formers.
