The Scade Suite KCG 6.0 Qualified Code Generator is undergoing qualification as a development tool under the military and aerospace standard, DO-178B, up to Level A.
Previously fielded versions of KCG have been qualified as a development tool according to DO-178B Level A for more than 25 aircraft programmes by EASA, Transport Canada, and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
The Scade Suite KCG 6.0 first qualification will be performed during the spring of 2008 on multiple aircraft programmes, including the Airbus A400M military transport aircraft.

Suite produces certified critical code
Esterel Technologies has released the newest version of its Scade Suite product, which includes the latest version of its KCG DO-178B qualified and IEC61508 certified C code generator.
In addition to DO-178B qualification in the aerospace domain, Scade Suite KCG 6.0 is also undergoing certification by TUV SUD, a German certification organisation accredited by the government to certify safety related products according to safety standards such as IEC61508, to show compliance with requirements of risk level SIL3 of IEC61508-3 as well as risk level SIL3/4 of EN50128.
These certification efforts are proceeding concurrently.
In 2007, TUV SUD assessed Scade Suite KCG 5.1 to state compliance with requirements of risk level SIL 3 of IEC61508-3 and risk level SIL 3/4 of EN50128.
These multiple qualifications/certifications are achieved by demonstrating a one-to-one relationship between the Esterel Scade Suite graphical model and the generated code, ensuring a completely traceable path from model to code, including adherence to the applicable development and safety standards.
Scade Suite KCG generates ANSI C Code that addresses the constraints imposed by mission and safety-critical embedded software development.
Characteristics of this code include being: full portability (compiler, target, and operating system independent); MISRA compliance; readability and traceability with respect to the design; optimisation for size and/or speed; and good structure (by functions and/or blocks).
At the lowest levels of abstraction, this code only performs static memory allocation, no pointer arithmetic, no recursion (bounded loops only) and has bounded execution time.
Esterel Technologies offers the Scade Suite KCG Qualification Kit that provides all artefacts produced by Esterel during the development of the tool and required by the certification authorities in the FAA order 8110.49 for a development tool such as: Tool Qualification Plan (TQP); Software Requirements Data; Software Installation Procedure (SIP); Version Content (VC); Software Configuration Index (SCI); and Tool Accomplishment Summary (TAS).
Esterel Technologies is committed to the further development of certification standards in a number of industries.
Examples of this commitment include participation in the ISO26262 effort in the automotive domain, as well as the DO-178C committee in the aerospace domain.
"Our commitment to mission and safety-critical applications has enabled us to develop a worldwide expertise in software certification processes, across several industries that share common concerns regarding safety and dependability", says Eric Bantegnie, President and CEO of Esterel Technologies.
"Our involvement in the development of the future standards and the sharing of best practices and processes across industrial domains on a worldwide basis continues to provide measurable benefits to our customers".
