Jbed Micro Edition CLDC (Connected Limited Device Configuration) is Esmertec's drop-in replacement product for Java 2 Micro Edition (J2ME) CLDC.
Cellon plans to incorporate esmertec's JVM on a GSM/GPRS wireless platform which will be commercially available by the middle of this year, as a first step to deploying Java technology across its handset range during 2003.
Cellon's Jbed ME implementation will also incorporate associated Java APIs including CLDC 1.0, MIDP 2.0 and wireless messaging.

Our agreement with Esmertec is an important step in that commitment", said Horst Fenske, Senior Vice-President, Engineering at Cellon.

Jbed ME is an order of magnitude faster than standard J2ME implementations because it fully compiles Java bytecode into optimised machine code on the device itself.
MIDP 2.0 is a new standard for mobile information devices that delivers greater functionality and better support for gaming, audio applications and security.
