Esmertec has made a strategic investment in Javaground, a company that supplies tools and services that enable the deployment of Java games and applications.

Esmertec has made a strategic investment in Javaground, a Southern California company, founded in December 2001, that supplies a complete suite of tools and services that enables the rapid deployment of Java games and applications seamlessly across multiple models of phones and multimedia devices Mobile games are being viewed as a major revenue generating application in handheld devices today and in the future

One of the major issues faced in developing games for mobile phones is adapting the game for the large variety of phones.

Javaground's patent-pending technology allows programmers to create and completely port a Java mobile game in an average time of two weeks.

Furthermore, this technology can be easily extended to other types of mobile content.

Javaground also offers a scalable provisioning server, Avancys, to mobile operators and service providers to manage the delivery of games and content.

Javaground has to date delivered tested Java games in over 350 different device models.

"We believe that Javaground's impressive technology will result in significant time and cost savings for game and content developers, and enable a broader reach of exciting games to a large user community", says Alain Blancquart, Chairman and CEO, Esmertec.

"Both companies will be able to benefit from the synergies in the porting and testing of applications, and in time enable Esmertec to expand its product portfolio in the mobile phone segment".

"Javaground has succeeded in a short time to become a leading provider of tools for mobile Java games", says Alexandre Kral, CEO, Javaground.

"The investment from Esmertec will assist us in further developing our technology, extend our market reach in the Java mobile industry, and leverage each other's internal resources as well as relationships with partners and customers".

Esmertec has taken a minority stake of 19.9%, and has an option in 2007 to obtain a controlling interest in the company.

In addition, Esmertec has agreed to provide Javaground with a loan to supplement its operating resources.
