Three UK crystals companies with combined experience totalling over 50 years have pooled their resources in a merger.

Three UK crystals companies with combined experience totalling over 50 years have decided to pool their considerable resources in a merger that will create a group of companies with global manufacturing and supply capabilities The merger of Euroquartz with Frequency Products and Webster Electronics will deliver significant benefits for the group's wide range of OEM customers

Comprehensive design support and fast turnaround prototype services will be available for both crystals and oscillators with low to medium volume production facilities continuing at Euroquatz's Crewkerne-based facility in Somerset.

Larger scale volumes will be produced in one of several offshore facilities to take advantage of the reduced costs of automated manufacture.

This will be achieved via strategic partnership alliances with global manufacturers with whom Euroquartz Group already has longstanding trading relationships.

Commenting on the merger, Dennis Murrell, managing director of Euroquartz Group, said: "In today's competitive electronics market the constant pressure towards cost reduction has led many OEMs to direct source from manufacturers wherever possible.

Production facilities can be located anywhere in the world and this requires a much more flexible infrastructure to accommodate this growing trend.

As a result, it has become increasingly difficult for smaller suppliers and manufacturers to compete and this has led to a spate of acquisitions and mergers over the last few years".

He continued: "The merging of smaller companies by itself is not enough to present a complete solution.

There must be a comprehensive strategy in place that satisfies the criteria set by the major OEMs.

It was with this in mind and against this background that Euroquartz, Frequency Products and Webster Electronics decided to pool their resources".

Frequency Products will merge completely with Euroquartz during the next 12 months while Webster Electronics will continue to trade separately within the Crewkerne facility offering a dedicated UK service for professional crystal products.

As one of the last UK based specialist manufacturers and suppliers of frequency control products, Euroquartz Group offers quick turnaround parts in three days, holds extensive stocks and offers specialist technical support.

UK facilities include R and D, low/medium volume fast turnaround crystals/PXOs, VCXOs and TCXOs, and surface mount/conventional high specification telemetry modules.

The group also has partnership production facilities in Germany, USA, Taiwan, the Philippines, China and India.

The Taiwan facility provides mass volume production SMD crystals, PXOs, VCXOs and TCXOs as well as SMD/conventional helical filters.

In the Phillippines, Euroquartz Group can produce mass volume crystals in SMD and conventional packaging.

USA facilities include R and D, low/medium volume fast turnaround crystals/PXOs, VCXOs and TCXOs both SMD and conventional.

Facilities in China provide high volume crystals, ceramic resonators and dielectric filters.

Facilities in India produce ferrite and plastic dielectric materials.

With annual turnover of ?3.5million and a current growth rate of 12.5% per annum, Euroquartz group provides major OEMs with a global manufacturing and supply facility for all types of quartz crystals, oscillators, filters and frequency control products.
