A new range of ultraminiature surface mount crystals is designed for use in a wide range of handheld communications applications.

Euroquartz has a new range of ultraminiature surface mount crystals designed for use in a wide range of handheld communications applications The new MJ series crystals are housed in an ultra-miniature 5 x 3.2mm footprint package with low profile height of just 1mm

This makes the crystals ideal for use in state-of-the-art hand-held and portable communications equipment including PDAs, GPS and wireless LAN systems.

Offered in a wide range of frequencies from 16 to 90MHz, the MJ series crystals also deliver excellent shock and vibration performance.

Frequencies from 16 to 40MHz are AT fundamental with maximum ESR (equivalent series resistance) of 50ohm while 40 to 90MHz parts are AT third overtone with maximum ESR of 60ohm.

Frequency tolerance characteristics at 25C of +/-5, +/-10, +/-20 and +/-30ppm are available with various temperature stability specifications.

These include +/-5, +/-10 and +/-30ppm from -20 to +70C and +/-3ppm over -30 to +85C.

Additional specifications include typical shunt capacitance from 2 to 4pF (5pF maximum), load capacitance from 10 to 32pF or series, maximum drive level of 10uW and ageing of less than +/-3ppm maximum per year.

Supplied on tape and reel in volumes of 2000 per reel or bulk pack, the new MJ series crystals are able to withstand reflow soldering temperatures up to 260C for 10s maximum (twice) or 230C for 180s (once).

Storage temperature range is -40 to +85C.
