Frequency control specialist Euroquartz has launched a range of ultra-miniature surface mount crystals designed for use in hand-held equipment and similar high density applications.

Frequency control specialist Euroquartz has launched a range of ultra-miniature surface mount crystals designed for use in hand-held equipment and similar high density applications The new MT series are AT-cut crystals housed in 3.5 x 2.5 x 0.7mm surface mount packages and are available covering the frequency range 16 to 52MHz in fundamental mode and up to 150MHz in third overtone mode

The small size and low mass makes the MT series appealing to manufacturers of miniaturised equipment such as PDAs, hand-held GPS and PCMCIA cards.

Specifications include frequency stability from +/-5ppm over temperature range from -10 to +60C and +/-10ppm from -30 to +85C, shunt capacitance from 2 to 4pF typical, 5pF maximum, load capacitance series or from 10 to 32pF (12pF standard) and drive level of 100uW maximum.

Standard equivalent series resistance (ESR) ranges from 60 to 100 ohms depending on frequency.

Tighter stability, tolerance and ESR values can be provided to special order.

Ageing is less than +/-3ppm per year at +25C.

Three operating temperature ranges are available encompassing -10 to +60C, -20 to +70C and -30 to +85C, with storage temperature range from -40 to +85C.

MT series crystals are supplied on 16mm EIA tape and reel and are suitable for reflow soldering (10s maximum at 260C twice or 180s maximum at 230C once).

With annual turnover of £3.5million and a current growth rate of 12.5% per annum, Euroquartz group provides major OEMs with a global manufacturing and supply facility for all types of quartz crystals, oscillators, filters and frequency control products.
