High-current PSU adjusts down to 1.45V output
Excelsys Technologies has launched a high current output module for its 3gen series of configurable AC/DC power supplies featuring an adjustable output voltage which can go as low as 1.45V DC.
Available with 400, 600 or 1000W power output capabilities, the 3gen LN series offers users a choice of one, two or three isolated outputs, each of which can be configured from any of four output modules, spanning voltages from 3 to 27V.
All models in the series offer conversion efficiencies of around 75%, and meet the EN61000-3-2 standard for harmonic current content, due to take effect in 2001.
The 3gen LN series is based on a completely modular design concept.

Modular supplies boast top power density
A new generation of modular AC/DC power supplies is believed to be the highest-efficiency and highest-power-density configurable products in the world.
Kit configures prototype power supplies
Available now from Excelsys Technologies, the specialist in configurable power supplies, powerKit is a simple-to-use 1U modular power supply development kit.
Modular power supply has high power density
1U high modular power supply delivers a power density of 15W/from a chassis measuring 260 x 127mm.
A two-transistor forward convertor front-end drives a planar magnetic main transformer, which then couples to a high frequency magnetic amplifier in each of the modular output stages.
This approach enables the power supplies to be cost-effectively configured for an extremely wide range of applications.
There are four single-output modules to choose from, with nominal outputs of 5V/30A, 12V/20A, 18V/15A and 24V/12A.
The output voltage of each module can be adjusted over a wide range via a multi-turn potentiometer; for example, the 5V module can be adjusted from 3 to 5.5V, and the 24V module can be adjusted from 12 to 27V.
Each output module also incorporates a specially-developed magnetic amplifier with an active noise attenuation circuit, which enables it to emulate the low noise performance of a linear supply; the 5V module, for example, exhibits a noise level of just 1mV peak-to-peak, or 100uV rms.
Excelsys 3gen LN series power supplies are particularly suitable for use in noise-critical applications such as analytical instrumentation and high-specification measurement and audio/broadcast equipment, and are also an ideal replacement for linear power supplies.
All 3gen LN series power output modules provide a single fully floating output, and have zero minimum load requirements, making them exceptionally easy to integrate.
Line regulation is typically held to within ñ0.1%, and load regulation is typically ñ1.0% for a 75% change in load demand.
The modules can be connected in series or parallel to increase output voltage or current capacity, and feature comprehensive protection against over-voltage, over-current and over-temperature conditions.
The power supplies offer a choice of three input modules, to provide a total capacity of 400, 600 or 1000W.
Each of these modules features a universal input that accommodates any voltage within the range 88 to 264VA (at 47 to 63Hz) or 150 to 370V DC.
The power supply will continue to hold up for a minimum of 20ms after the loss of AC power, and a mains failure detect function is available as an option.
There are two versions of 3gen LN series containment housings: a 4-slot unit which can house an input module and one or two power output modules, and a 6-slot unit which accommodates the input module and up to three power output modules.
The 4-slot unit measures 127 x 270 x 65mm (W x D x H) and the 6-slot unit measures 187 x 270 x 65mm.
Both units are fitted with integral cooling fans with a 34bB(A) rating (the 6-slot unit has two fans) and employ high quality screw terminals for all power connections.
All Excelsys 3gen LN series power supplies have a 3000VAC input/output isolation rating and carry a full set of international safety approvals, including EN60950 and UL1950.
The supplies also meet the rigorous EN55022 Level B requirements for conducted emissions, and comply with the relevant parts of EN61000-4-x for immunity to electrostatic discharge, electromagnetic fields, fast transients, line surges and voltage dips.
