Analyser speeds fibre testing in the field
The FTB-5800 chromatic dispersion analyser is a new high-performance test module for the EXFO FTB-400 field-testing platform, and is essential for deployments and upgrades of high-speed DWDM networks.
The FTB-8115 Transport Blazer, available in 155Mbit/s (OC-3/STM-1) or 622Mbit/s (OC-12/STM-4) configurations, supports an extensive list of DSn, Sonet, PDH and SDH features, allowing users to perform a wide range of tests from simple bit-error rate (BER) analysis to more advanced network characterisation and troubleshooting.
In addition, this module offers an upgradeability path to 2.5Gbit/s (OC-48/STM-16) and 10Gbit/s (OC-192/STM-64) rates, ensuring customers' investments can be leveraged as their future testing needs evolve.
For immediate 2.5Gbit/s (OC-48/STM-16) and 10Gbit/s (OC-192/STM-64) rates, EXFO already offers this functionality through its FTB-8120/8120NG and FTB-8130/8130NG modules, respectively.

More accuracy from wavelength meters
EXFO Electro-Optical Engineering has improved the accuracy of its wavelength meters in order to link them directly to reference material from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).
Component assembly workstation for opto devices
EXFO Electro-Optical Engineering has launched a semiautomated assembly workstation for array-type devices.
EXFO's exclusive SmartMode feature is also available as an option on the FTB-8115 Transport Blazer.
SmartMode provides automatic discovery of the Sonet/SDH signal structure and real-time monitoring of all discovered high-order paths as well as user-defined low-order paths.
As a result, it represents the ideal solution for quick and simple isolation of network faults.
"Sonet/SDH deployments in access and metro networks continue to grow at a strong pace, sparked by increased bandwidth requirements created by new wireline and wireless business and residential access technologies", said Benoit Fleury, EXFO's Vice-President of Protocol-Layer Product Management.
"With this growth, network operators require compact and versatile test solutions to fulfill their increasing day-to-day testing duties".
"The FTB-8115 module, designed to operate in the FTB-200 and FTB-400 field-test platforms, can be combined with a wide range of optical and protocol test modules (OTDR, optical loss test set, PMD analyser, chromatic dispersion analyser, optical spectrum analyser, Ethernet, 10 Gigabit Ethernet, Fibre Channel testers etc) to address all critical test requirements in order to quickly and efficiently turn up, maintain, and troubleshoot DSn/PDH and Sonet/SDH circuits in access and metro networks".
