Exfo Electro-Optical Engineering has added optical transport network (OTN) testing functionalities to its IQS/FTB-8120 and IQS/FTB-8130 Transport Blazer test modules.

Exfo Electro-Optical Engineering has added optical transport network (OTN) testing functionalities to its IQS/FTB-8120 and IQS/FTB-8130 Transport Blazer test modules This ongoing evolution within Exfo's Transport Blazer product family brings to market the most compact OTN and next-generation Sonet/SDH test solution in the industry

Increased demand for converged high-speed data, voice and video services over Internet protocol networks continues to drive the need for higher-performance metro and long-haul transport networks.

OTN, which is defined in the ITU-T G.709 standard, is a key enabler for service providers to deliver increased performance on their legacy fibre infrastructures.

Exfo's OTN test solution is a new software option that runs on the IQS-500 Intelligent Test System for manufacturing and R and D test applications.

It can also be used with the FTB-200 compact platform and the advanced FTB-400 universal test system to ensure coverage of a wide array of test and measurement applications, ranging from R and D verification, to field turn-up and troubleshooting.

It includes forward error correction (FEC) generation and analysis as well as support for all OTN layer alarms and errors.

This OTN test solution is designed to support both OTU1 (2.7Gbit/s) and OTU2 (10.7Gbit/s) test rates.

"Since its launch earlier this year, our Transport Blazer product family has gained significant traction in the market due to its feature richness, compact form factor and strong roadmap for continued evolution through additional software functions", said Etienne Gagnon, Exfo's Vice-President of Optical and Protocol-Layer Product Management.

"Another key success factor for this product has been its ability to seamlessly support Sonet/SDH, next-generation Sonet/SDH and now OTN testing in a common offering, which is a critical attribute to help our customers streamline their testing needs".

"With this new OTN product offering available on the FTB-200 Compact Platform, the Transport Blazer solution becomes the industry's sole compact field-portable test solution for OTN testing, setting another benchmark in the industry for portable test solutions".
