Embedded modules make wireless LAN access easy
Ezurio has embedded all the drivers, stacks and programming capabilities required to implement Wireless LAN into one small module.
Wireless LAN is widespread in laptops and smartphones, but is still almost unknown in embedded applications, where its potential for remote machine monitoring is immense.
That's largely due to the complexity of implementing the drivers, networking stack and programming interface needed for 802.11 wireless networking.
The technology is daunting for embedded designers and most machines simply don't have the processing power or operating system to make it possible.
Ezurio's embedded 802.11 modules make it easy for anyone to develop connected products.
The company needed to find an embedded operating system to support real-time events and customer programming abstraction.
It chose the Green Hills Integrity and Velosity products.
"Green Hills Software's comprehensive operating systems, development tools and middleware solution has enabled our R and D team to construct powerful M2M (machine to machine) applications and create wireless devices that are the first of their kind in terms of footprint, connectivity and manageability", said Nick Hunn, Chief Technology Officer, Ezurio.
"Ezurio is doing for its customers precisely what Green Hills' secure networking platform does for innovators like Ezurio: provide a highly optimised technology solution that enables end customers to deploy cutting edge products to market faster and at the lowest possible manufacturing and development cost", said David Kleidermacher, Chief Technology Officer, Green Hills Software.
The close working relationship between Ezurio and Green Hills Software Research and Development Teams has enabled Ezurio to push the boundaries of capability of embedded Wireless LAN modules.
By embedding all the drivers, stacks and programming capabilities required to implement Wireless LAN into one small module Ezurio is effectively providing everything that is needed to run a Machine 2 Machine (M2M) application, yet makes it simple enough to implement in a matter of hours.
According to analysts Harbor Research, the M2M market is about to explode.
In a survey performed in September 2007, 60% of companies surveyed claimed that they intend to embed network capabilities into half or more of their products within the next three years.
Ezurio's WISM modules provide the power to help the industry attain these aggressive predictions.
WiTS is a real-time store and forward telematics platform which Ezurio has built upon its WISM technology.
It's designed to handle real-time events and communications, providing a platform for enterprise developers.
With a requirement for very tight timing and control parameters it places even more requirements on the Green Hills' Integrity and Velosity products.
For fleet management application developers, the WiTS platform combines inexpensive, intelligent vehicle data logging with an end-to-end system that securely replicates the data with a hosted database.
The system provides an easy to deploy platform that is exciting a wide range of fleet management and vehicle insurance companies, who are using it to build their own enterprise applications.
What they find particularly attractive is that the WiTS platform offers a cellular-free 802.11 (Wi-Fi) data transmission scheme that removes the cost of SIMs and network subscriptions.
