Bus hold makes logic more predictable
Fairchild Semiconductor has made a number of additions to its LCX family, the logic industry standard for 3.3V applications.

Fairchild Semiconductor has introduced a dual-output registered buffer for 184-pin, 2.5V PC200/PC266, 72bit-wide registered double data rate (DDR) SDRAM modules.
Controller and switch combine to cut PSU chipcount
New from Fairchild Semiconductor, the FSDH0165 power switch combines a voltage-mode PWM controller and SenseFET power switching element in a single 8-lead package.
The LCX family of products' mixed-voltage capability allows the designer to use 5V components in conjunction with LCX dependably, without any redesign to the board.
One of the recent additions to the LCX line is the release of LCXH products with bus hold circuitry.
Bus hold circuitry allows users the option of holding the inputs of these devices at the last known state.
This feature eliminates the need for using pull-up resistors to prevent the device inputs from floating and causing potential system errors.
Several LCX parts have been released with power up/power down circuitry, these have been designated the LCXZ line.
These products provide designers with the option of having a buffer that will power up and power down into a high impedance state.
This feature will add an extra level of system integrity and predictability to a design by defining a known state during the power sequencing.
Standard LCX products are only designed to power down into a high impedance state.
These newly released products are designed to perform well in a broad range of applications.
The bus hold option is particularly important in applications where space and cost are at a premium and the elimination of pull up resistors is a possibility.
The power up/power down to high impedance option is most helpful in applications that demand hot insertion and high reliability operation, such as telecomms and networking equipment.
Both the LCXH and LCXZ products offer the option for 26ohm series resistors on the outputs of these devices, which will allow for a lower-noise alternative.
