Complementing its GTLP leadership in backplanes, the addition of LVDS allows Fairchild to help customers optimise their system performance.

With consumer demand rapidly increasing for broadband services, systems are constantly being driven to higher complexities and bandwidths.

To support these needs, communication, networking, server, and storage equipment require new levels of performance from their backplane and interconnect solutions.

Fairchild increased backplane performance with GTLP and now Fairchild offers designers a LVDS technology that will further extend performance gains throughout the system.

LVDS technology uses differential signalling to route the highest speed signals such as clock and data across PC boards, across the backplane or through cables between different system boards.

Fairchild's LVDS performs 30% faster than other LVDS technologies and can support 622Mbit/s performance levels that are key to telecommunications systems.

Fairchild's LVDS provides a wider common mode range that simplifies board and system design while providing higher noise immunity and system reliability.

Fairchild has enhanced the LVDS failsafe feature.

This enhancement more reliably allows the receiver devices to default to a known state (high) when the receiver inputs are open or short- circuited.

Backed by Fairchild's industry leading design support structure, EnSigna Lab and EnSigna Web, these products provide designers tools to meet and exceed today's system performance demands and reduce time to market.

Fairchild's initial LVDS portfolio includes the FIN1017 single driver, the FIN1018 single receiver, the FIN1019 single driver/receiver, the FIN1027 dual driver and the FIN1028 dual receiver - all operating from a 3.3V power supply and available in several bit width configurations.

These devices are available in different packaging options.

The FIN1017 and FIN1018 are available in industry standard 8-lead SOIC and the world's smallest 8-lead package, US8.

The FIN1019 is available in 14-lead SOIC and TSSOP while the FIN1027 and FIN1028 are available in 8-lead SOIC.

Fairchild's LVDS portfolio will be expanding continuously within the next year and will include additional configurations of drivers, receivers, clock drivers, repeaters, and serialisers/deserialisers in industry standard pinouts as well as in customer driven, unique functionality.

Spice and IBIS models are available on the web along with applications assistance to integrate silicon and systems models.
