Three-input gates save space and cut
delays
Fairchild Semiconductor has expanded its TinyLogic portfolio with a new family of ultra-high-speed three-input gates designed to increase available board space and improve power dissipation.
Expanding its TinyLogic portfolio, Fairchild Semiconductor has released a new family of ultra-high-speed (UHS) three-input gates designed to increase available board space and improve power dissipation The new family premiers with five popular gate functions, including NAND, AND, NOR, OR and X-OR

Bus hold makes logic more predictable
Fairchild Semiconductor has made a number of additions to its LCX family, the logic industry standard for 3.3V applications.
All are available in 6-lead SC70 for use in space-constrained applications such as cellphones, notebooks, PDAs and digital cameras.
"Fairchild continues to design solutions that focus on "real" customer requirements", says Kenneth Murphy, Fairchild's marketing manager for TinyLogic.
"Today's announcement highlights our commitment to technological innovation.
In the past, to perform a three-input function, designers used a larger 14-lead, triple, three-input device, such as a 74VHC27MTC.
Alternatively, they combined two discrete, two-input gates such as an NC7SZ02P5 in two 5-lead packages.
In each case, the solution is not as elegant as a single, three-input gate, which halves the chip count, board space and power dissipation".
Fabricated on high-speed CMOS, the TinyLogic UHS three-input gates provide LCX-like performance over a wide 1.65 to 5.5V supply range, including sub-4ns propagation delay, low 2.0uA static ICC and 5V tolerant inputs and outputs.
The new family includes the NC7SZ10 three-input NAND, NC7SZ11 three-input AND, NC7SZ27 three-input NOR, NC7SZ332 three-input OR, and NC7SZ386 three-input X-OR.
Besides being offered in the SC70-6 package, these will be available in space saving 1.0 x 1.45mm leadless MicroPak, beginning in the second quarter.
Pricing for the new gates begins at $0.11 each, in quantities of 3000 pieces in the SC70.
