Switches shrink the size of interfaces

Fairchild Semiconductor has four new wide-bit bus switches in fine-pitch QVSOP packages.
The new wide-bit bus switches are used in space-constrained systems such as notebook PCs, PDAs and portable electronics.
The wide-bit bus switches provide flexibility in designing notebook-to-docking station interfaces in a space-saving QVSOP footprint that is 41% smaller than TSSOP.
Two of the new 48-pin, wide-bit bus switches - the 20bit FSTU32X384 and 20bit FSTU16862 - incorporate Fairchild's UHC (undershoot hardened circuitry).
The UHC senses undershoot levels down to -2V on any I/O data port and prevents voltage differentials from turning on the switch thereby maintaining isolation.
All four of the new devices operate at 5V, including the 48-pin FST33X257 quad 24:12 multiplexer/demultiplexer and the 40-pin FST32X245 16bit bus switch.
All feature a 4ohm switch connection between two ports with a minimal 0.25ns propagation delay between inputs and outputs.
Together, the four new devices provide portable electronics designers with an array of flexible interface solutions, such as those needed to provide isolation on a notebook PC docking bay connector.
