"We congratulate the Cebu team and applaud their unflinching support of health, safety and environmental excellence".
OHSAS18001 certification was created through the combined work of 80% of the world's leading national standards and certification bodies.
Compatible with ISO9001 for quality and ISO14001 for environmental management systems standards, OHSAS is designed to minimise risk of accidents and near-miss incidents that employees and other parties may encounter while participating in work-related activities.
OHSAS certification indicates that a company's health and safety management system has been audited by an accredited third party registrar and has been found to conform to required specifications.
Improvements in health and safety performance after implementing the system must be evident at the time of the audit.
Cebu's OHSAS certification marks the latest of the facility's many health, safety, and environmental achievements.
Other Cebu honours include: ISO14001, ISO9001 and QS9000 certification; three time winner of Cebu's Business for Environment Award, for its commitment to environmental protection in 1998, 1999 and 2000; Employers Confederation of the Philippines' 2002 Child Friendly 3-Stars Award, for its standing as a "child friendly" and "child labour free" organisation; and 2000 Best Community Projects in Mactan Island and Cebu, presented by Philippines President Joseph Estrada, for its efforts to combat infectious disease, support education, the environment and humanitarian projects.
Fairchild's Cebu facility has also achieved 9 million man-hours of zero loss-time accidents, marking a two year record for no lost time work related accidents.
