Fairchild has made four new additions to its NC7 series of TinyLogic ultra-low-power logic devices.

Fairchild has made four new additions to its NC7 series of TinyLogic ultra-low-power logic devices The NC7SV19, a 1-of-2 decoder/demultiplexer, is designed specifically for high-speed Flash memory selection

The device also provides low operating voltage with dramatic power savings and requires minimal space.

Three dual buffers and inverters with and without Schmitt trigger inputs greatly ease the connectivity of new feature functions, an especially important design consideration in accommodating convergent trends in cell phones, PDAs, notebooks, digital cameras and other portable devices.

The new NC7SV and NC7WV series devices offer significant performance value for portable designers.

For example, the NC7SV19 offers typical propagation delay of 3ns at 1.65-1.95V - performance that was only available in previous versions at 2.5V and higher.

The NC7WV and NC7WP series dual buffers and inverters combine high performance, low (battery) voltage operation and choice of packaging, including 6-lead SC70 and a chip-scale MicroPak, the latter requiring only 1.5mm2 mounting space.

The NC7SV19's fast propagation delay is specified to meet fast memory access - a critical requirement in cell phones - and will operate from 3.6 down to 0.9V.

The NC7SV19's CMOS design supports longer battery operating time by consuming 30% less power than standard LCX single-gate components.

Depending on the logic state (high or low) applied to the device's dual inputs, the function provides a chip-select level to either or both outputs.

Replacing three individual components (two OR gates and an inverter) with a single device, the NC7SV19 provides maximum functionality in a single 6-terminal IC.

The NC7WV and NC7WP ultra-low-power series facilitate near seamless additions of new features to cellphones and ultra portables, maximising design options in accommodating convergent trends.

NC7WV series devices provide typical propagation delays of only 2ns at 2.5V (3ns at 1.8V), thus meeting critical timing targets, even at low operating voltages.

Designed for 30-50% less power consumption than LCX and similar technologies, the devices provide overvoltage protection of up to 4.6V for an operational voltage range of 0.9-3.6V.

According to Ken Murphy, Fairchild Marketing Launch Manager for Logic Products: "The combination of high speed at low battery voltages, low power consumption with chip-scale packaging makes these most recent additions to the NC7 series of ultra low power TinyLogic devices an optimal price/performance value for next-generation ultra-portable electronic devices".

Available model numbers include the: NC7SV19 1-of-2 decoder/demultiplexer; NC7WP14 dual inverter with Schmitt trigger input; NC7WV16 dual buffer with Schmitt trigger input; and NC7WV17 dual buffer (without Schmitt trigger input).

All models are available now in 6-lead SC70 and in leadless, chip-scale MicroPak packaging.

For SC70 in 3000-piece tape-and-reel format, specify the P6X suffix to the part model number, eg NC7SV19P6X.

For MicroPak version in 5000-piece tape-and-reel format, specify L6X part number suffix.
