Convertor cuts linear power budget
The SPT5240 is a novel high-frequency 10bit D/A convertor boasting less than 20% of the power dissipation of competing devices.
The SPT5240 is a novel high-frequency 10bit D/A convertor boasting less than 20% of the power dissipation of competing devices.
Fairchild reckons it is the ideal D/A convertor for test equipment, medical diagnostic and imaging, portable communications and other battery-operated equipment requiring high-speed data conversion.
It is also well suited to applications including set top boxes, video displays and broadband RF.
At a fast, 400MHz update rate, the SPT5240 typically dissipates just 149mW.
"The high speed offered by this new 400Mword/s D/A convertor makes it an excellent choice for today's instrumentation applications", said Olav Linquist, Marketing Manager of Fairchild's Signal Conditioning Group.
"The SPT5240 combines low power with high speed, which is also important for tomorrow's portable and battery-powered equipment".
Additional benefits of the SPT5240 convertor include an extended industrial temperature range (-40 to +85C), complementary current outputs, and an internal reference.
The SPT5240 is available in a 32-lead LQFP and operates from a 3.3V supply.
