Power switches aim to satisfy 1-watt initiative
A new family of PowerSaver switching products features low standby power and low EMI for improved performance in video system applications.
Fairchild Semiconductor is adding three new PowerSaver products to its Fairchild Power Switch (FPS) family.
In compliance with the International Energy Agency's (IEA) "1-watt initiative", PowerSaver FPS components achieve low standby power by using an integrated high-voltage startup regulator in conjunction with Fairchild's advanced burst mode standby operation.
Fairchild's new family of PowerSaver products includes the FSDM0565R, FSDM07652R and the FSDM0365RN, featuring low standby power and low EMI for improved performance in video system applications.
These products use a precision, fixed frequency oscillator, and frequency modulation for the FSDM0365RN, to limit EMI.
Fairchild's FPS products combine an avalanche-rated SenseFET (650V minimum breakdown rating) for current sensing with a current mode PWM IC - an integration that minimises external components, simplifies designs, and lowers design costs.
These highly integrated FPS devices include pulse-by-pulse current limiting, internal soft start to reduce voltage overshoot at plug in, overload protection, overcurrent protection, overvoltage protection, undervoltage lockout with hysteresis, and internal thermal shutdown.
"The 30W-rated FSDM0365RN, 60W-rated FSDM0565R and the 75W-rated FSDM07652R add to Fairchild's solutions for set-top boxes, DVD players and high-definition LCD monitors.
They join our portfolio of data convertors, amplifiers, mosfets, optocouplers, regulators, video filters, LEDs and LED drivers providing extensive system solutions", said SangTae Im, Fairchild's Power Supply Product Manager.
"These new PowerSaver switches offer video system designers a unique combination of excellent operating performance and low standby power in a highly integrated package".
The FSDM0365RN is available in an 8-pin DIP package and the FSDM0565R and FSDM07652R are available in an isolated, 6-leaded TO-220 package.
The packages are lead-free (Pb-free) and meet or exceed the requirements of the joint IPC/JEDEC standard J-STD-020B and are compliant with the European Union requirements, which will take effect in 2005.
