The Fairchild Semiconductor Mountaintop, Pennsylvania wafer manufacturing facility has received OHSAS18001 certification.

OHSAS18001 is an international occupational health and safety management system created from a number of the world's leading national standards bodies, certification bodies and specialist consultancies to help organisations minimise and eliminate occupational health and safety risks to employees and other parties during work-related activities.

"Fairchild is committed to maintaining the highest levels of safety for our employees and the community.

We've been recognised around the world for our exemplary achievements in health, safety and the environment", said Fairchild's Director of Corporate Environmental Health and Safety, Karl Albrecht.

"Mountaintop joins Cebu, the Philippines; Penang, Malaysia; Bucheon, South Korea; and Salt Lake City, Utah, in achieving OHSAS18001 certification.

"Mountaintop is also ISO14001 (Environmental Management System) certified, along with South Portland, Salt Lake City, Bucheon, Penang and Cebu", continued Albrecht.

"This ongoing effort by our manufacturing sites has made Fairchild a world and community leader in the implementation of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) management systems".

Fairchild's Mountaintop facility produces power products that are used in a variety of ultraportable applications such as cellphones, PDAs, power adaptors, power bricks and voltage regulator modules, MP3 players and digital cameras.

Recently, Fairchild announced a $143 million expansion project at the Mountaintop facility to meet the increased customer demand for these power products.
