Power component designed into digital video
Lasat has selected Fairchild's Green Power Switch (FPST) for its Digital Video Broadcast (DVB) set top boxes.
Lasat has selected Fairchild's Green Power Switch (FPST) for its Digital Video Broadcast (DVB) set top boxes.
Fairchild's Global Power ResourceT design lab in Europe, working with EBV Elektronik - an Avnet company - delivered the power solution in a record four weeks.
A typical design for standby power consumption in an advanced application such as DVB set top boxes would take 3-6 months.
The reduced design time enabled Lasat to meet their time-to-market requirements.
"This power design solution for Lasat is one example of Fairchild's Global Power Resource design successes.
The design centre in Fuerstenfeldbruck, Germany, as well as our other design centres worldwide, work with our customers to provide complete, highly efficient power design solutions that meet industry standards such as the 1 Watt standby power regulations specified in Europe," said Ole-Petter Brusdal, Fairchild's vice president of Sales and Marketing, Europe.
"Fairchild's highly integrated, off-line, green power switches reduce standby power and EMI emissions, simplify designs and reduce total part count in applications such as set top boxes, battery chargers and adapters, mobile phones, PDAs, MP3 players, colour TVs, monitors and PCs.
"Fairchild's Global Power Resource design centres help customers achieve improved performance, reduced part count, reduced inventory costs, improved time-to-market and enhanced design functionality for industrial, consumer and automotive applications," continued Brusdal.
"Examples of design solutions already completed include the reduction in part count in a colour TV power supply from 200 to 60 devices, a 60 percent reduction in board space for an automotive ignition control system and implementation of an ultra-slim power supply design for an LCD TV." According to industry analyst firm iSuppli, the demand for power semiconductors for consumer appliances such as home media, PCs, automotive, MP3s, and digital still cameras, is projected to grow nearly 20% over the next five years, outpacing both the total semiconductor market that is projected to grow at over 12%, and the consumer end market that is projected to grow over 8% for the same time period.
Fairchild is The Power FranchiseR supplying power products to manage and conserve power in electronic products such as LCD monitors, PCs and mobile phones.
These devices drain significant power when on standby, and Fairchild's power solutions are designed to reduce power when the devices are not in use as well as conserve power when operational.
Power optimization plays a vital role in delivering consumer requirements such as longer battery life, increased functionality and smaller weight and size.
Fairchild's products include a full range of AC/DC power switches, DC/DC controllers and regulators, PF controllers, MOSFETs and optocouplers.
