Single-chip video filter takes more onboard
Fairchild Semiconductor has released what it claims is the smallest and most integrated single-chip video filter on the market.
Fairchild Semiconductor has released what it claims is the smallest and most integrated single-chip video filter on the market.
The video filter offers designers the advantage of having a single, space-saving filtering solution that can be used across the entire spectrum of video applications for DVD players, set-top boxes and HDTVs.
The FMS6403 is the industry's only video filter selectable for standard definition (SD), progressive scan (PS) or high definition (HD) standards offering tri-level sync and a bypass mode that permits passing of 1080p and HDTV signals.
Featuring true 2:1 mux inputs for YPbPr or RGB inputs and triple 6th order filters with selectable 30, 15 or 8MHz cutoff frequencies, this device accommodates the full range of worldwide video formats.
Fairchild's FMS6403 can be used in two ways.
Its most common function is as an anti-aliasing filter to remove high-frequency noise prior to A/D conversion in such applications as HDTVs, media centres and home theatre receivers.
It can also be used as a reconstruction filter to remove high-frequency artefacts introduced during D/A conversion in products like HD/SD set-top boxes and DVD players and recorders.
This performance capability helps designers achieve high image quality with one compact device.
"Due to its versatility, comprehensive feature set and small size, Fairchild's single-chip video filter is receiving tremendously positive reception from industry-leading DVD, set-top box and HDTV manufacturers", said Jeremy Tole, Fairchild's Product Marketing Manager for Video Products.
"In August 2004, Fairchild introduced the FMS6407, the industry's first video filter to combine the functionality of HD, PS and SD filters into one chip".
"With the addition of the new FMS6403, Fairchild now offers the most highly integrated, industry leading solutions for NTSC, Pal, Secam, HDTV and 1080p requirements, extending its leadership position in integrated video filtering solutions while supporting the expansion of the growing HDTV market".
The FMS6403 is available now in a 20-pin TSSOP.
This lead-free (Pb-free) product meets or exceeds the requirements of the joint IPC/JEDEC standard J-STD-020B and is compliant with the European Union requirements now in effect.
