New Motion-SPM devices for sub-200W inverter motors are tailored to reduce board space and simplify designs while enhancing system performance and reliability in refrigerator applications.

Fairchild Semiconductor's two new Motion-SPM devices for sub-200W inverter motors are specifically tailored to reduce board space and simplify designs while enhancing system performance and reliability in refrigerator applications Each FCBS0550 (500V/5A) and FCBS0650 (500V/6A) Motion-SPM integrates six MOSFETs, three HVICs and one LVIC into a single, compact thermally efficient module

Compared with discrete designs requiring multiple components, the new Motion-SPM reduces total board size by 20% in inverter motor designs for refrigerators.

This integration leads to simpler and faster designs as well as highly reliable and efficient systems.

Unlike competitive devices, Fairchild's FCBS0650 and FCBS0550 are UL-certified, which satisfies basic creepage and clearance spacing requirements.

"Fairchild designed its integrated Motion-SPM for under 200W inverter motors to utilise a MOSFET as a switching device", said Taehoon Kim, Vice President of Fairchild's Functional Power Group.

"The result is a module with a structure compact enough to achieve cost-effectiveness in low-power applications while offering system efficiency and reliability".

"These new Motion-SPM devices demonstrate how Fairchild intentionally designs products to meet the requirements of specific applications".

The FCBS0650 and FCBS0550 are available in ceramic-based (44 x 26.8mm) Mini-DIP packages.

These lead (Pb)-free products meet or exceed the requirements of the joint IPC/JEDEC standard J-STD-020B and are compliant with the European Union requirements now in effect.

Fairchild's comprehensive portfolio of power modules covers the full range of consumer appliance applications from 50W to 3kW.

Offering both integrated and nonintegrated solutions to meet the full range of OEM requirements, each specific solution exemplifies the company's proven design, manufacturing and packaging expertise.
