Low-voltage dual-supply voltage translator increases design flexibility by allowing designers to control the direction of each bit individually.

Available now from Fairchild Semiconductor, the FXL4TD245 is reckoned to be the industry's first 4bit low-voltage dual-supply voltage translator with independent direction controls This novel control feature increases design flexibility by allowing designers to control the direction of each bit individually compared with typical configurations that control the direction of bidirectional voltage translators in groups of 4, 8 or 16bit

The FXL4TD245's wide voltage range of 1.1 to 3.6V simplifies designs and accommodates the voltage requirements of a variety of consumer and industrial applications.

In addition, the FXL4TD245's ultracompact (2.5 x 3.5mm) DQFN package provides 65% board space savings versus TSSOP packaging, making it ideal for space-constrained ultraportable, computing and consumer applications.

"Fairchild's FXL4TD245 is the first translator to allow designers to choose the configuration that makes sense for their specific design rather than being limited by the translator's architecture", says Gary O'Donnell, Fairchild's Technical Marketing Manager for Logic Products.

"This one-of-a-kind independent-direction control feature allows this translator to be configured for a wide array of designs, giving designers a level of flexibility unattainable by using previous solutions".

The FXL4TD245 is fully configurable: the A port tracks the level of the VCCA supply and the B port tracks the level of the VCCB supply.

Both supplies are independent, allowing designers to select the translation levels and set the high side or low side according to their specifications.

Other translator solutions force designers to use a preset high side or low side and to determine what the voltage needs to be.

Fairchild Semiconductor's growing FXL portfolio of logic translators offers designers a range of device options to better optimise their specific applications.

The FXL4TD245 uses lead-free (Pb-free) terminals and has been characterised for moisture sensitivity in accordance with the Pb-free reflow requirements of the joint IPC/JEDEC standard J-STD-020.

All Fairchild products are designed to meet the requirements of the European Union RoHS Directive.
