The new website represents significant investment and commitment to the agreement by Premier Farnell, and is a tailored response to the changing needs of the higher education sector.
The new features are geared around making the lives of customers easier, through advanced, faster and easier-to-use functions.
Commenting on the website upgrade, Paul Tallentire, Regional Director, Western Europe, Premier Farnell, notes: "We have extensive knowledge of the higher education sector here in the UK and our field personnel have very close ties with the universities.
It was as a result of this deep understanding and dialogue with our customers, that the teams identified the need for additional functionality and services on the onecall website.
They then drove the changes internally within the business, to ensure their customers are getting the service they need.
It is this kind of knowledge and understanding which continues to secure contracts of this type for the group".
The key features of the new onecall site include: one time only registration - details are remembered for future transactions; easy to use, advanced product search facilities; order consolidation across multiple users; additional ordering options, to suit the needs of the customer; and 75,000 technical datasheets available online to customers, free of charge.
David Johnson, Chairman of NUWPEC, has worked alongside Premier Farnell on the onecall initiative from its launch in September 1999: "When the original tender was awarded jointly to Premier Farnell companies, Farnell and CPC, it was due to the clear economic advantage these companies offered us in their tender response.
Not only this, but they were willing and able to tailor their services to meet the objectives of NUWPEC, which was critical.
Just over three and a half years later, much has been achieved with onecall and, with this announcement, it is clear there are still more developments to look forward to over the next eighteen months, as Premier Farnell continues to raise the bar".
