The proactive system saves design engineers the headache of designing-in a component, only to discover later that it is no longer available.
The service suggests appropriate alternatives or replacements, saving customers the significant amounts of time, money and effort that finding substitutes requires.
Using its global power and resources, all of Farnell's InOne locations have worked together to deploy the service internationally, and to support design engineers across Europe and Asia Pacific.
The personalised letters, e-mails and despatch note messages distributed weekly to Farnell InOne customers are unique for each country, with comments tailored to specific issues in local markets.
"Communicating with customers, identifying their needs and delivering results are core to our focus here at Farnell InOne.
Our research and experience showed us that the global problem of obsolescence was an increasing one and that design engineers desperately need advance warning if a product is going to be made obsolete or will no longer be stocked", explains Paul Tallentire, Regional Director, Western Europe, Farnell InOne.
He continues; "Recognising that the battle against obsolescence needs to be tackled on a global scale, Farnell InOne decided to do something about it.
Following the success of ProductWatch after its initial launch in the UK, we have now made the service available internationally in a bid to solve the frustration factor for customers all over the world.
From customer feedback, it appears that is just what we are doing".
