Pair celebrate microcontroller success
Farnell InOne and Microchip Technology are celebrating the success of a working relationship that has spanned over a decade.
Farnell InOne and Microchip Technology are celebrating the success of a working relationship that has spanned over a decade, with the news that Microchip is now the leading global provider of 8bit microcontrollers.
This information comes via a report released by industry analyst firm, Gartner Dataquest, which shows that Microchip has secured the number one position in global unit shipments of 8bit microcontrollers for 2002.
This achievement highlights the growth of Microchip since 1990, when it was placed 20th globally, a success that has been aided by the global backup and support of Farnell InOne and the Premier Farnell Group.
In April 1992, Farnell InOne added the first ten Microchip products into its catalogue: by November 2000, Microchip had become Farnell InOne's largest revenue-generating semiconductor supplier.
With 2000 products available from stock, over 50,000 orders for Microchip products are handled per year.
Farnell InOne provides support for all of these Microchip products through a huge range of 'best-in-class' design development tools, including books, demonstration boards, debuggers, programmers and emulators.
It also gives expert technical advise from its highly skilled and knowledgeable technical sales team.
Customers have seen many benefits from this partnership, as Gary Nevison, Head of Product and Supplier Development, Premier Farnell Europe and Asia-Pacific notes: "The work done together by Microchip and Farnell InOne has played an integral part in providing our customers with a constantly evolving range of new, innovative, quality products.
We provide Microchip with an expansive global reach, and our customers with dependable delivery, expert technical support and an unrivalled range of development tools.
It is a mutually beneficial partnership that looks set to continue for many years to come".
Ken Millar, Northern European Distribution Manager at Microchip, adds: "Our relationship with Farnell InOne has played an important part in Microchip's growth over the past ten years and has contributed to our company becoming the world's number one supplier of 8bit microcontroller unit shipments".
Farnell InOne's European success in supplying Microchip products - including the PIC microcontroller - encouraged sister company and distributor, Newark InOne, to take the franchise some three years ago, helping to extend the global reach of Microchip products still further.
The relationship between Farnell InOne and Microchip has extended beyond simply that of supplier and distributor.
In the past, they have worked together to encourage and invest in the next generations of design engineers, through cosponsorship of awards programmes at Birmingham, Manchester and Loughborough universities.
They have also collaborated to provide the University of York with a fully equipped laboratory.
Going forward, Farnell InOne is playing a major role in helping customers migrate to the very latest, innovative products available from Microchip, as well as providing all the necessary development tools to support its evolution.
