This year's Great Yorkshire Bike Ride, the longest sponsored bike ride in the UK, has yet again beaten its annual total for monies raised The charity event, which was held in June this year, raised GBP 110,013, bringing the running total to an impressive GBP 1,222,064

An awards presentation to recognise those involved in this highly successful and popular charity event took place at The Jarvis Hotel in Wetherby on Sunday 14th November.

The team award for highest sponsorship went to Farnell InOne, the award-winning international distributor of electronic and industrial components, for raising a massive GBP 5800 - the team included the father and daughter partnership of Dorcas and Ian Murray, who completed the race on a tandem.

Now in its 21st year, the 70 mile bike ride from Wetherby to Filey raises money for many charitable organisations such as Martin House Children's Hospice, National Heart Research Fund, Ryedale Mencap, Disability Action Yorkshire, ChildLine, The Fund for Epilepsy, Wetherby Lions, St John Ambulance and Water Aid.

John Taylorson MBE commented: "As always, there was a fantastic turn out for the ride this year, which took place on a chilly Saturday in June and, as a result, we have broken all previous records for monies raised".

"This year's record total would never have been achieved without the determination and dedication of the cyclists and the continued support of our sponsors such as Farnell InOne".

Steven Webb, Company Secretary, Farnell InOne, said: "Farnell InOne is proud to be associated with the event, which it has supported through both sponsorship and employee participation for many years".

"As a Yorkshire-based company, we strongly believe in supporting our local area and its people".

"I am also particularly proud to be presenting an award to our own team at Farnell InOne".
