Connectors contribute to 10 Gigabit success
A demonstration of 10 Gigabit operability running at 3.125Gbit/s per lane showed no errors after 10 hours of continuous operation over a distance of 1m on an FR4 copper backplane.
A demonstration of 10 Gigabit operability running at 3.125Gbit/s per lane showed no errors after 10 hours of continuous operation over a distance of 1m on an FR4 copper backplane.
The live test demonstration made by FCI and Mysticom at DesignCon 2003, California achieved a bit error rate (BER) better than 10e-14.
In what is a highly competitive market, the combination of FCI's Metral 4000 Series connectors and Mysticom's MY3104 10 Gigabit (4 x 3.125Gbit/s) transceiver aims to provide system developers with a solution that significantly extends high-speed system performance and shortens design cycles.
The demonstration simulated real backplane traffic by running the most stressful data test possible, the IEEE Draft P802.3ae/D5.0 continuous jitter pattern (CJPAT).
The performance attained shows how designers can meet the stringent requirements of system backplanes handling large amounts of data in terabit routers, multiservice edge switches/routers, voice and multimedia gateways, and wireless basestations.
"The knowledge gained from the high-speed demonstrator will give our customers the advantages that current market conditions require: shorter time-to-market and effective use of resources", said Rob Oerlemans, Product Manager for FCI's backpanel and high speed products.
"The combination of FCI's 4000 Series connectors and Mysticom's 10 Gigabit transceiver offers system developers a proven and robust solution that is optimised for harsh industrial environments where conditions can become extreme".
