A novel quality of service manager (QoSM) for mobile phones aims to make data traffic significantly more reliable and consistent by addressing the bottleneck in transmission quality.

QoSM6251 from fg microtec controls, prioritises and optimises data streams and ensures that any multimedia data traffic gets the fastest handling at each point of time according to the network situation.

Embedding QoSM6251 provides handset manufacturers with a competitive advantage by enabling them to provide complex real-time applications such as high fidelity audio or high class streaming video, real interactive games, instant messaging or Push2talk at the highest possible speeds and with the true real-time experience end consumers request from today's multimedia mobile phones.

The primary goal of fg microtec's new QoSM6251 is to provide priority, dedicated bandwidth, and improved loss characteristics required for real-time and interactive applications.

The QoSM6251 ensures that priority for one or more application data flow does not result in the failure of other data flows.

In addition, fg microtec's PFC technology can be used to further optimise and improve the flow control.

The QoSM6251 can be embedded into any 2.5G, Edge or UMTS handset design and delivers the best possible quality, co-ordination and performance with reduced data transmission times under any network condition and without any server interaction.

The QoSM6251 provides: control over mobile phone resources - handset manufacturers have control over phone resources such as priority for applications or transport protocol congestion; more efficient use of mobile network resources - operators have fewer retransmissions and lost data packages and therefore benefit from higher network efficiency resulting in higher ARPU (average revenue per user) and lower CAPEX (capital expenditure); tailored applications - mobile operators are able to differentiate themselves by offering tailored services such as video applications to their customers; mission-critical applications - fg microtec's QoS technologies guarantee the efficient use of mobile networks in mission-critical applications by ensuring optimal bandwidths and minimum delays for time-sensitive multimedia and voice applications; and foundation for all future IP applications - implementing QoSM6251 technologies in handsets is the right and necessary step towards improving customer satisfaction by guaranteeing ultimate real-time multimedia interaction.

First implementations of quality improvement solutions have already been integrated in a range of mobile phones and will be demonstrated at the upcoming 3GSM World Congress in Cannes from 23rd to 26th February 2004 on stand B30 in Hall 1.
