COTS relays switch to naval duties
Relays are chosen by two suppliers of equipment for the new Type 45 anti-air-warfare destroyers being commissioned for use by the Royal Navy.
Complete with an easily operated retaining clip, the 94.04 socket offers the facility for fixing prominent identification tags adjacent to all terminal positions.
Identifications tags are available in sheet form to facilitate automated labelling by commercially available printer/software systems.
Incorporated into the socket is the facility to accept optional suppression and timer modules.
In total there are 18 different types of surge suppression devices offering suppression of electrical interference resulting from coil switching.
Alternatively, an optional on delay or on pulse timer module can introduce delays between 1.5s to 64min; this can be fitted initially or retrospectively.
Common connection of terminals of adjacent sockets can be effectively achieved by the use of six-way jumper links.
A novel scheme of mechanically interlocking the socket and relay ensures that the former is retained under conditions of vibration.
