Connectors make it round the world
An onboard camera system mounted in each of the computing craft in the Volvo Ocean Race owes its reliability in part to waterproof connectors.
BHP Sport of Milton Keynes was chosen to supply and design a complete onboard camera system for this, the most demanding round the world race Fischer connectors were used on all eight boats of the Volvo Ocean Race 2001/02
The race lasted nine months and went round the world.
The conditions were extremely hostile at times not one failure was found.
The BHP waterproof onboard camera was mounted on the stern of the yachts.
BHP designed a special right-angle adapter so that the rubber boot could still be used.
Steve Selfe system designer at BHP said: "We have tried many other connectors over the years and only the Fischer range have given consistent reliability in the ocean environment.
There really is no other choice for us.
We will specify Fischer connectors for the next Volvo race starting in 2005". Request a free brochure from Fischer Connectors ...
